Contests are fun ways for Ham operators to hone their communication skills. While many operators strive to win the contest, our members are thrilled to make contacts with folks from all over the globe. During contests one has a better chance of making contacts due to worldwide participation. As an example, in an international contest held in March using the mode known as Single Sideband (SSB or phone) we reached a diverse group of countries such as: Aruba, Poland, Argentina and Morocco. Contests prepare us for emergency situations as well, should they ever arise.
Our Hams & Coffee get together was well attended and fun. Similar to our weekly meetings, the conversations ranged from technical achievements to discussing our latest knee or hip ailments.
Meetings are held at the South Tower every Monday night at 6:30 PM. Our club conducts a weekly radio network at 7:00 PM every Monday on the W6LHR Repeater at 147.030 MHz, 167.9 PL. If you are looking for a way to engage in the community and have an interest in amateur radio, please check out the LHARG. We can help with programming handheld radios.
